Major League Hacking 2020 Hackathon Season

September 28-29

Who Are We

GirlHacks a 24-hour hackathon aimed to support and celebrate female and non-binary college students in STEM. GirlHacks 2019 will be held in the Campus Center Atrium @ New Jersey Institute of Technology. Participants work in teams of up to four design and innovate amazing projects in just 24 hours. The hackathon will have the help of excellent mentors, workshops, and tech talks. GirlHacks is catering toward creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all hackers regardless of experience with technology.

Our Origins

GirlHacks stemed from the NJIT WiCS on campus. WiCS is an organization that engenders and supports NJIT's growing community of women studying in the fields of computing and technology. Through WiCS, members develop their skill set at student-hosted workshops, participate in mentorship, and network at national conferences. GirlHacks aspires to extend this mission and to create NJIT's women centric hackathon!

Empowering Event

Can I attend?

We are aiming to create an hackathon targeted towards college females! At this time we cannot accomodate to high school students. More specifically, it is aimed at female or non-binary hackers that will be at least 18 at the start of the hackathon, you are eligible to attend! All other genders are welcome to apply and attend the hackathon! It is an all inclusive hackathon.

What if I can't code?

Welcome to the first-time club! This is the first time GirlHacks is happening and our primary goal is to be a first-time friendly hackathon! We got you covered with our workshops and mentors who will be there through-out the entire event.

Is the event free?

Yes! The event is 100% for all of our hackers. You will be provided with snacks, meals, and a ton of swag! However, sadly as of now we cannot provide reimbursements for travel cost. If anything changes we can we will notify you!

Can I use an old project?

Why don't we build something new? The whole fun of this hackathon is building something new from scratch with a team or alone. Oh ya we also have a team building session so don't panic if you don't have a team before coming!

What should I bring?

Bring a laptop, charger, headphones, hardware you might need (we will have a MLH Hardware Lab), hygiene products, a change of clothes, a pillow, blanket, etc. Also bring your resume to hand out to our sponsors!

Rules + Code of Conduct

We will be abiding by the MLH Code of Conduct. If you have any more questions that we have not answered please feel free to email us
